DAUIN – The best muck diving
The town of Dauin is located on the picturesque coast of Dumaguete, on the island of Negros Oriental. Its main attraction lies in the fascinating macro diving both on its sandy beaches and on Apo Island.
Despite its rather remote location, Dauin has an excellent selection of hotels and dive centres. This destination is recognised as one of the most outstanding and best preserved marine sanctuaries in the country. Apo Island, located opposite Dauin (not to be confused with Apo Reef!), offers an exciting drift dive known as “The Washing Machine”, where large schools of pelagic fish and majestic sea turtles can be observed. In recent months, whale sharks and, on occasion, hammerhead sharks have even been sighted.
Although it is possible to dive in Dauin all year round, we recommend doing so from December to May, which is the dry season. During these times the sea is not so rough and visibility can reach 30 metres. Regarding the water temperature, it varies between 26 and 30°C.
If you decide to visit Dauin, you will be able to enjoy one of the best places to practice Muck Diving and Blackwater Diving. In addition, Dauin is easily combinable with nearby destinations such as Moalboal, offering excellent value for money.
