The best time to dive in the waters of Baja California is during winter (November-May). However, from January onwards, when the water is colder, it’s the perfect opportunity to spot the majestic humpback whales.

The best dive sites in Revillagigedo
San Benedicto Island – The Boiler
This is one of the most famous dive spots in the world due to being home to the largest aggregation of giant manta rays (Manta birostris), including their rare black variant, rarely seen elsewhere. Their considerable size, exceeding 6 meters in wingspan, makes this place even more special.
-
The Canyon
Located south of the island, this is a massive underwater canyon formed by a ridge of small volcanic mountains opening into the open ocean on both sides.
-
Roca Partida Island
This is a tiny islet of just 1.4 hectares, quite far from San Benedicto and Socorro (about 9 hours of navigation). As there is no safe shelter for boats, good maritime and weather conditions are required to reach this point.
This isolated islet is actually the crest of a submerged volcano. It is uniquely sculpted by ocean forces and completely covered in seabird droppings as they use it as a stopover on their migratory routes.
Socorro Island
-
Cabo Pearce
The best dive site on Socorro Island. It features a stunning landscape of canyons and pinnacles extending into the ocean. Curious bottlenose dolphins often accompany divers here.
-
Punta Tosca
Located on the western side of Socorro Island, this is one of the best spots for humpback whale sightings in season. There’s also plenty of action with common shark species like silky sharks, silver tips, and Galápagos sharks. With luck, you might even spot a tiger shark or a group of dolphins.
