Diving in the Marshall Islands

Bikini Atoll is an exclusive destination for experienced technical divers. The average depth of its wrecks is between 45 and 50 metres, so a minimum of 100 logged dives and experience in deep wreck diving are required. Open-circuit divers must hold, as a minimum, TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures certifications (or equivalent), whilst rebreather users must hold TDI CCR Air Diluent Decompression and CCR Helitrox Diver 45 m certifications (or equivalent). To fully enjoy the wrecks, a technical certification allowing dives beyond 45 metres is recommended, and those wishing to enter the interior of the ships must demonstrate specific training and experience in confined-space diving.

ITINERARY

Day 1

Boarding will take place at the Ebeye jetty between 15:30 and 16:00, after which there will be introductions, briefings about the boat and safety procedures, and dinner will be served.
There will be no dives on the day of boarding.

Day 2

The total distance from Ebeye Island to Bikini Atoll is 406 kilometres, which takes between 24 and 28 hours to cross, depending on the weather conditions.

The cruise director usually schedules one or two morning dives at Kwajalein Atoll before the Pacific Master sets sail for Bikini Atoll.

If possible, we will dive at the Prinz Eugen, which is just 30 minutes from Ebeye, but this is not guaranteed and depends on any restrictions that the US Navy may impose at Kwajalein.

NOTE: The choice of dive sites and the number of dives at Kwajalein Atoll will affect the arrival time at Bikini Atoll and the possibility of going on an afternoon dive on the third day.

Day 3

We usually arrive at Bikini Atoll in the early afternoon.
Depending on the duration of the crossing from Ebeye and the time of arrival at Bikini Atoll, it may be possible to go for a dive in the afternoon, although this is not guaranteed.

Days 4 to 10

A maximum of 2 dives per day* with a minimum of 4 hours between them, scheduled as follows:

  1. Early riser
  2. Breakfast, followed by a briefing and Dive 1
  3. Lunch and free time
  4. Briefing and the 2* dive
  5. Snacks and leisure time
  6. Dinner

*Halfway through the trip, only one morning dive will be scheduled; after lunch, guests will have the option of going on a shore excursion to Bikini Island, followed by a barbecue on the beach, or they may choose to stay on board and relax. There will be no shallow-water diving option for those who do not wish to go ashore.

Day 11

The departure from Bikini Atoll takes place first thing in the morning for the return journey to Ebeye Island, in Kwajalein Atoll.

Day 12

Disembarkation at Ebeye quay takes place between 07:00 and 10:30 in the morning, depending on the Kwajalein ferry timetable and the flight’s departure time.
