Here, major migrations converge, predators are in full action, protected reefs thrive, and biodiversity shifts with the seasons\u2014making every visit different from the last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this article, we explain <strong>which marine species you can encounter, the best places and seasons for sightings, and the regulations in place to protect this ecosystem,<\/strong> so you know when to go and how to enjoy it responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The giants of the sea: whales and whale sharks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, Baja California Sur becomes a migratory highway for some of the largest animals in the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Gray whale:<\/strong> They arrive from Alaska seeking warm, shallow waters. Mainly spotted in Magdalena Bay between January and March.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Humpback whale:<\/strong> Famous for their breaches and songs. Seen around <a href=\"https:\/\/temoanaexpeditions.com\/en\/dive-in-cabo-san-lucas-mexico-the-aquarium-of-the-world\/\">Cabo San Lucas<\/a> and along the peninsula from November to mid-April.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blue whale:<\/strong> The largest animal on the planet. The La Paz area offers the best chances, especially between April and June.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Whale shark:<\/strong> The largest fish in the world visits La Paz Bay to feed on plankton. Juveniles and females are often especially curious and interactive with divers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sharks in Cabo San Lucas:<\/strong> Sightings of blue sharks (April\u2013December), mako sharks (December\u2013June), and silky sharks year-round, with peak activity between May and August.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blue-footed booby:<\/strong> Recognizable by its bright blue feet, it can be observed on Esp\u00edritu Santo Island, particularly during courtship season.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sea turtles:<\/strong> Six of the world\u2019s eight species inhabit these waters. It hosts the only living coral reef on the peninsula and the highest fish biomass in the gulf. Here, divers can encounter massive schools of jacks, bull sharks, and wrecks such as <em>El Vencedor<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Regulations and conservation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The balance of this ecosystem is maintained through clear regulations and responsible tourism:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cabo Pulmo:<\/strong> A Protected Natural Area and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
