In Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks you can see these majestic species in their natural habitat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ragged-tooth sharks<\/strong> (or \u201craggies\u201d) are the stars of Aliwal Shoal. During mating season, they gather in caves like the famous <strong>Raggie Cave<\/strong>, where they rest calmly over the rocky bottom.<\/li>\n\n<li>These raggies are also observed in structures such as \u201cThe Cathedral\u201d, a natural rocky amphitheater where they shelter from the swell.<\/li>\n\n<li>In <strong>Protea Banks<\/strong>, the environment is more pelagic: here you can see <strong>tiger sharks<\/strong>, <strong>hammerheads<\/strong>, <strong>bull sharks<\/strong> (zambezi), and more.<\/li>\n\n<li>And here comes one of the reasons South Africa is so unique:<br>it is one of the few places where there is a real\u2014though low\u2014chance of <strong>spotting a great white shark<\/strong> during dives. It&#8217;s not common, but many local guides <strong>have reported unexpected encounters<\/strong> with great whites in open water. The walls are covered with coral and sponges, and you can also find moray eels, stonefish, and colorful nudibranchs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Cathedral<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A rocky formation shaped like an underwater amphitheater. During ragged-tooth shark season, many gather here.
