The Japanese Pacific Fleet
Truk Lagoon is home to 19 large wrecks of the Imperial Japanese Fleet that can be dived recreationally. It is perhaps the best destination in the world for recreational wreck diving. But if that were not enough, the decades have turned the war machine into a beautiful reef full of soft and hard corals (more than 300 varieties), anemones, butterfly fish, barracudas, whitetip sharks and invertebrates that have made their home here. The water is an average of 29 – 30 degrees and houses all the life and color of a lagoon.
The Japanese government declared Truk Lagoon a historical monument and underwater museum. Divers who remove any objects from wrecks or bring them to the surface risk being penalized with heavy fines. Thus, most of the remains of the Japanese fleet have never been touched and all of it rests eternally in a forgotten atoll in the Pacific.
An adventure we will never forget!
