THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF MACRO AND PELAGIC
Diving around Sipadan and Mabul islands is an incredible experience. While Sipadan offers pelagic diving, large marine species and turtles, Mabul presents a wonderful world of small and curious creatures. Away from typhoons and monsoons, the diving season on the islands is year-round.
The waters, especially those of Sipadan, reach 60 metres of visibility and are rarely below 30 metres. Divers began venturing into these parts in the early 1970s and it was not until 1989 that permanent accommodation was opened. In the same year, Jacques Cousteau arrived here on the ship Calypso and said of Sipadan: “I saw other places like Sipadan 45 years ago, but they no longer exist. We have found an intact work of art.” These were his prophetic words.
Sipadan Island (Pulau Sipadan, meaning Border Island) is without a doubt, due to its diversity and abundance of marine life, one of the great diving destinations on the planet and, in fact, is listed as one of the top ten places in the world for diving.
